Studentenkoor Gica zingt: ‘Babel’

Wie kent de toren van Babel niet? Het heeft niet alleen schilders zoals Bruegel geïnspireerd, maar ook veel componisten hebben dit verhaal als uitgangspunt genomen. In het programma Babel verklankt Gica een deel van deze composities. Babel verwijst hierin niet enkel naar aan de toren van Babel, maar ook naar het Babylonische ballingschap. Op dit laatste thema is het bekende Psalm 137, Super flumina Babylonis, bijvoorbeeld gebaseerd.
Het programma is een reis door de tijd én door de verschillende cultuurlandschappen van Joodse, Duitse, en Scandinavische koormuziek. Hierbij zullen componisten als Rossi, Bach, en Sibelius de revue passeren.

Who is not familiar with the Tower of Babel? It has not only inspired painters like Bruegel, but it also was a source of inspiration for many composers. In the program ‘Babel’, Gica interprets some of these compositions. The name ‘Babel’ refers not merely to the tower of Babel itself, but also to the Babylonian exile. The well-known Psalm 137, Super flumina Babylonis, for instance, is based on the latter theme.
‘Babel’ is a journey through time and space that ties together different cultural landscapes of Jewish, German, and Scandinavian choral music. The project will feature a wide variety of music, with composers like Rossi, Bach, and Sibelius.
