Student choir Gica sings: ‘Babel’
Who is not familiar with the Tower of Babel? It has not only inspired painters like Bruegel, but it also was a source of inspiration for many composers. In the program Babel, Gica interprets some of these compositions. The name ‘Babel’ refers not merely to the tower of Babel itself, but also to the Babylonian exile. The well-known Psalm 137, Super flumina Babylonis, for instance, is based on the latter theme.
‘Babel’ is a journey through time and space that ties together different cultural landscapes of Jewish, German, and Scandinavian choral music. The project will feature a wide variety of music, with composers like Rossi, Bach, and Sibelius.
